As a dyed-in-the-wool St Augustine obsessive, I haven't always been overly interested in the Georgia coast. Oh, I liked it okay and all, it was a nicer drive than down I-75 south when I was headed to Florida. But only in the past few years have I really stopped along the way and gotten to know it. How sad that it took me that long.

And I admit it took me a long time to make friends with James Oglethorpe, the founder of Savannah and eventually Georgia. Seriously, I didn't care for the guy. He whupped up on my St Augustine in 1740 and I didn't much care for that. But when I took the time to know him and understand his plans and motivation I found him to be a reasonable person, more than willling to explain himself. And it all made sense when I looked at it from his point of view.

So I sort of live in two worlds. When I am on the Georgia coast, it's where I want to be. And when I am in St Augustine, that's where I want to be too. If I had to choose...I don't know which it'd be. I love both places and there are so many voices and stories and personalities and things to discover and write about in both places.

So, I shall continue to explore and unearth and write and take pictures and get to know more and more of the people who shaped the coastal areas of my state. It's just the obsessive in me, I guess.

I'd be happy to show you the Georgia coast - my way. Click on the links at left to read about some of the interesting spots I have visited and some of the interesting people I have met, some living and others, well, not so much.
